A group, known as the United Young Professionals, has raised an alarm over a misleading headline written against the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris, by the Punch Newspaper.
The United Young Professionals, called on the Editorial Team of Sunday Punch Newspaper, to be professional in her publications.
They called on Sunday Punch Editorial Team, to retract the misleading publication titled: “I’m free to have romantic affair with any Policewoman – IG”.
“We were part of the people that attended the Senate Committee sitting, and from the written statement of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris, he never said that “that there is no law that prevents HIM from marrying a serving female Police Officer”, rather what the IGP said is that NO LAW STOPS A POLICE OFFICER IN SERVICE TO MARRY ANOTHER POLICE OFFICER”, the joint statement said.
The group further stated that Sunday Punch Newspaper, as one of the leading newspapers in Nigeria, should have weighed the consequences of the misleading headline, as they tend to mislead the public on an issue that is before a Law court.

“What IGP Ibrahim Idris said was that Senator Misau should cite any Section of the Law that prevents Police Officers from having a romantic relationship with another Policewoman, but unfortunately, Sunday Punch Newspaper decided to mislead the general public, so as to sell her Sunday Edition as quickly as possible”, the group stated.
The group further reiterated that: “Just as the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has challenged Senator Misau to give the full particulars of the female Police Officer, one Corporal Amina; where she is serving and her duty post, we equally called on the Punch Newspaper to prevail on Senator Misau, to give the full particulars of Corporal Amina, rather than misleading the general public.”
